I've found a new game.  It's space based, but much different than Dark Orbit.  Basically, you start with a planet and some resources and start building.  The goal is, of course, to become powerful.  The three ways to do it are, raid people, trade with them, or dig in and mine away.  Apparently the game makes the later more difficult.  I've seen several references on their board about "turtles" goin extinct.  There are rules in place to prevent more established players just swatting less developed ones and so far no one has come after me at all.  This is the kind of game that you log on to for an hour, do your business and leave alone for a while.  At least, that's the state I'm in now.

DJ this might be the sort of game that would interest you, though I don't think anyone else would get into it.  Chuck, I'm not sure about you.

Game update:

While Flapper, the head admin of the city of PS is pretty happy right now, Flapper the Governor of the planet of Parn Silia is very aggrivated.  He knows it is just a matter of time before his defenseless planet is raided.  On a positive note, he has overseen the contruction of his first star ship.  The small fighter is currently in route to a nearby world, that should be defenseless.  On good thing about a small cargo bay, you don't have to think big to fill it.  The economist in him realizes it will take over 100 missions for the fighter to pay for itsself, but its hard not to be proud of taking his first steps into space.

I'm going to laugh my ass off if the ship encounters resistance and is blown to peices on the first mission.  Guess we'll know soon, 15 . . . wait we have an update.  Apparently I miscaluted the time.  She's on her way back with full cargo bays.  Woohoo. 99 trips to go for break even. :(

Things are suddenly moving more quickly in the game.  I expect to have a transeport ship by tomarrow mid day, maybe even tonight.  That will accelerate my income tremendously.  I finally got my small planetary shield built and Governor Flapper feels much more secure about his defenses.

I've been following their board, and had to chuckle.  The game designers apparently listen to feedback on the board and occasionally make changes based on it.  From what I can tell, the "offensive specialists" have been pitching a fit over a certain defensive system.  They are making a change to "balance" the game, and now the defensive specialists are pitching a fit.  The moderators are keeping things from getting personal, but the whole thing cracks me up.

My future is so bright, I gotta wear sleeves....

I seem to remember that it gave me a language option at some point, but now I don't remember.  The web-site is run from Germany, or at least somewhere they speak German, but I didn't have any problems.  I've played around with my account a bit, but can't find how to change it.

I'd guess you somehow signed up on the German server.  I'm not sure what happened, sorry and good luck.

I just registered. And yes, it took me to the German page after I did so. But if you close the browser and following the link again, then it reverts to English.

After three weeks of play the game has become a little faster paced.  It's still a game you can spend ten minutes on and leave alone for two hours.  The more interaction you have with other players the more time consuming it is too, of course.

This morning was interesting.  I raided a planet for the biggest haul so far, and he actually had the balls to counter attack.  He didn't get much, but it with all the people I attack, It's about time someone comes after me.  While I came out on top of the exchange, if I would I would have been just a tad bit luckier I could have intercepted his fleet and really pissed him off.  I almost think all the resources the had must of been delivered overnight by a member of his alliance.  I've kind of been watching him and I don't know how he could have got so much.  I kind of hope it's true.  First, will he admit that he lost and second, it might piss of his whole alliance.

I decided very early I was going to be confrontational in the game, and go after people.  I'm not recklass, but I am aggressive beyond my nature.  Eventually someone bigger than me will catch my oversized fleet, but I've accepted that in advance and will rebuild.

The game is a lot of fun.

My power continues to grow.  I'm the charts now as one of the top 1500 fleets.  Somewhere around 1200.  I've been raided a couple times by a 60,000 point player.  I"m at about 15,000.  I've seen him coming all three times and he's gotten almost nothing for his trouble.  Tomarrow, I counter attack.  Three days ago I plunked a raiding base next to two of his planets.  A raiding base is just a colony that you don't develop.  I named it Here I Am and he's probed it once.  I don't think he's online very often.

Should be interesting.  If he ever catches me I can't stand up to his fleet, but if he's careless, I can hurt him and maybe even pick him apart.  In the meantime, what I take from him will go into building new ships for my own fleet.  I wish I had time tonight, but I guess morning will have to do.

Well, it took longer than I thought, but I got him.  Killed a few ships and stole a bunch of resources.  By the time I turn it into ships, he'll only be 3.5 tiimes bigger than me.  ???  The best part is, I'm pulling a page out of the Pelicar playbook now.  I sent him a message and offered a truce.  Something about the Coopers comes to mind.   8)  I actually implied a threat against him.  I really love this game.

Even better, my alliance knows what is going on, and I had to talk a few of them out of piling on.  Meanwhile my opponent is a member of the biggest alliance in the game.  I may have started an major incident, I can't wait till he logs in and sees what has happened.

  While I was typing the last message, he logged on.  He took the truce.  I wonder if he knows that the truce will just last until I'm bigger than he is.  :o

Reminds me of Hitler and Stalin at the beginning of WW2.

Lew, did you fall out of the top 1500? It looks like the new threshold is about 30.6K in points. Not making fun; your over 17K while I'm still under 400. So, don't kill me or raid my planets.  ;D

Of course, thanks for all the resource transports. I feel like a third-world country receiving aid from the U.S. Maybe I should complain about you not sending more.  :banghead:

Space invasion is starting up a new universe.  All the rules will be the same, and you can have active games in both.  But in the new uni, every player will start from scratch.  A completely even playing field.  Registration will start in a few days and I think that play will start November 1rst.

For me, this is a minor dream come true.  A huge strategy game me and my alliance mates against everyone.  No big monster players to hide from.  A true chance to show that all those obsessive hours and days playing Warlords, Sim City, Civilization and even Pelicar were not a waste.  Anyone who wants to be in on something like this should resister for the current game and get a little experience.  For anyone that wants, I think I can get you into my alliance.  I'm moving up the ranks so fast that I think I have a little pull now.
