I realize that their is a political incorrectness to racial profiling, by authorities.  I also understand why.  I would not feel comfortable if all the black kids in neighborhood were rounded up for questioning evertime something went missing, or is only olive skinned people were searched at airports.  However, I can tell 70% of the time how a person is going to pay for there merchandise here at Greer.

It is amazing how much you can tell just by a person's age, gender, and race.  A few facts

Old white folks will pay by check 90% of the time.
Asians will use plastic just as often
Young men never right checks, 50/50 for cash or card
Young women rarely pay cash, its always card or check depening on age.

Now, I hate taking checks.  First, you have to stand their while the person makes it out.  Then you have to get all the numbers of their drivers license.  Blah, Blah, Blah.  It's not age per say, but habit.  The checks we take have droped from 20 or more a day 10 years ago to well under 10.  Evertime an old person dies, it's one less check writer.

Only time I write checks is when I have to mail it and there is no online pay option.  Right now, that's rent and health insurance.  Otherwise it's cash or debit card.

I wish I could get electronic deposit of my paychecks.  Bout to run out of deposit slips.

One of my instructors at the Academy had a great saying:

"no matter what the situation, no matter who you're dealing with, always have a plan in the back of your mind to kill them". 

After dealing with so many people as a police officer I kind of developed a sixth sense/streetwise ability to read people.  I've caught a lot of bad guys by just digging a little deeper after scratching the surface of a situation.  Always go with your gut.  If something doesn't feel right...it usually isn't.  I would always tell new officers to trust their gut feeling...call for backup if something doesn't feel right...a 90 year old woman can kill you just as easily as a 20 year old member of the Crips.
